and they're all made out of ticky-tacky...
Little boxes...

Little boxes are floating in front of my eyes...

They're made out of pink and green, and any other color you can read text through.

Aarrgghhhh!!!

I have the joyful task of document business process flowcharts at work. Interesting actually, but the little boxes are becoming tedious. Tedious I tell you!

And these have to look "just so", because giant mega-corporation does everything "just so". Of course, I have no idea of what I'm doing. Giant mega-corporation is flung all over the globe (I think) and the folks whose little boxes populate my flowcharts are flung too. So getting their feedback is a bit challenging. But giant mega-corporation is a fairly profitable entity so I guess somebody knows what they're doing flinging all over the place.

The thing with the little boxes is that they bring out the nit-picky perfectionist within me. Just as I now can't help myself from trying to straighten a cock-eyed picture frame, regardless of where I (and the picture frame) am, I can't just let a minor little thing go on these charts. The deep down reason is that I've grasped the concept of how to do these things from arranging the little boxes in neat little rows to distilling what each process does and how it interacts with its successor and predecessor. Since I've grasped this concept, I know how to do it. And since I know how, I hold on tight to the taks and keep on doing it because I know how. So I turn into a perfectionist from doing what I know how to do ad infinitum.

But... that would lead to a "downward spiral" and I don't do those any more. At least I know how to get myself out of them a lot quicker than I used to.

The good thing about all these boxes is that I've been more engaged in work than I've been in a looong time. So much that typing in my little journal here is a necessary and welcome break.
