cats
this was a comment I made to a post by Her-Story... I think it belongs here too.

Cats are great. We have two. They’re both rescue kitties. Mine is, as his temporary Momma described him, a mouthy redhead. He’s a 16 lb (& still growing) ginger tabby named Crookshanks. Yes, the name came from Harry Potter. His full name is William Marmalade Crookshanks. There’s a theme there, isn’t there?

He’s a sweet, energetic and rambunctious kitten boy who’s going on two. Or, as it goes in his own personal song, “He’s my big and poofy, kind of goofy kitten-boy.”

Crookshanks is not at all like his buddy, Mr. Baxter. Mr. Baxter is my wife’s cat. He is sweet, gentle and empathetic. He’s also a bit of a wimp. Ergo, he’s been submissive to my cat ever since he and Crookshanks met. The good thing is that Mr. Baxter, while seemingly slow, isn’t stupid. He’s just to gentle to be agressive. The two boys are very, very different for which I’m very glad.

Crookshanks was born to a feral cat who had been dumped at the vet. Fortunately, the vet also works with my wife and knew I was looking for another cat. My previous cat had died several months earlier. Bob was a Kitty With A ‘tude… He was very smart. We rescued him from some very not-nice people who also had 2 dobermans. The people and the dobermans abused Bob, so he took a while to get used to being treated nice. He had a mean streak, but when he wanted to be sweet, he was incredibly wonderful. He was a “hugger”. When I would pick him up, he would wrap his arms around my neck or my shoulders. Once I gained his trust he trusted my completely. That was joy enough to overcome his usual crankiness.

Kitties are wonderful. Everyone should have a cat in their life.
